The 2017-2018 school year has come upon us. Unfortunately for some, divorces are filed right after the children go back to school. While some divorces are uncontested and can end smoothly, some divorces can be harsh. Following, are some tips to help you survive through the process of a divorce.
- Always take your lawyers’ advice – it can only lead to a successful outcome if you do. Part of helping your attorney do his or her job is by doing your job as a client and listening to the direction given by your attorney.
- Get off social media. No texting, no emails. Everything you write in anger will ultimately be seen by your judge. Don’t post comments about your divorce on Facebook either.
- Resist the urge to rack up credit card debt during the divorce process. While credit cards may feel like they are providing therapy through retail, it is a bad choice to make in lieu of therapy. Try exercising and staying calm – this will benefit your mind and body and you will avoid extra credit card debt that may not be absorbed by both parties in the end.
- Making mistakes during a divorce is possible – don’t feel bad about it. Own up to your mistakes and try to avoid making the same ones over and over again.
Remembering to keep your adult hat on and remembering to keep your attorney in the loop at all times can be what makes your divorce as simple of a process as possible!
